Dear friends in Christ,
We give thanks to God for his teaching to us
by parable that we may understand about God’s word. Particularly, he teaches us
how to respond to his word, it involves receiving it, treasuring it and putting
it into practice in our lives.
On16th Sunday in Ordinary
Time – year A, once again, we hear of
Jesus’ teaching about the Kingdom of God.
The Kingdom of God can seem a vague,
distant concept that fails to capture our understanding of God’s plan for us
and our world. In the Jesus’ time, the Kingdom of God can be understood as; “the Kingdom of God is within you.” (Lk
17. 21)
In today’s Gospel reading Jesus teaches what the Kingdom of
God is like by using three
different parables about everyday experiences as: The
parable of the Weeds, the Mustard Seed
and the Yeast. Indeed that Parables of God are Jesus himself, his person,
under the form of his humanity, hiding and yet revealing the same deity. In
baptism, God invites us to believe in Him, he draws us to himself through the
truth and goodness of his incarnate Son. By our faith in Jesus Christ we can be
confident to call God “our Father” and therefore it also leads us to a good relationship
to the power of this earthly kingdom.
What is more, in today’s Gospel Jesus also reminds us that it is God’s word, God’s world and God’s Church. Even
in the face of evil, of scandal, of betrayal, our task is to remain faithful
and, if we fall, to allow the Lord to pick us up again. If we do, we can be
confident that we will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of our Father. We will
radiate with the beauty, joy, and fullness of God’s love.
Lord Jesus, let your word take root in
our hearts and may your all-
consuming love transform our lives that we may sow what is good, worthy, and
pleasing to you. Amen
